The Ajax Sea Scout Troop offers a virtually unlimited array of outdoor opportunities for boys and girls aged 10½ to 14 – with the focus strongly on the water.
The Troop meets at the Water Activities Centre on Thursdays from 19.15 to 21.15 and on Saturday afternoons, except in winter.
With exclusive access to an extensive fleet of kayaks, sailing dinghies, pulling boats, and power craft, members are able develop and refine a broad range of boating skills under the supervision of qualified Leaders and Instructors.
Because Ajax is an authorised training centre, members are also able to obtain Royal Yachting Association and British Canoe Union qualifications with no requirement to attend costly external courses.
In addition to an action packed programme of water activities, members are also trained in traditional Scouting skills and they have the opportunity to gain a wide variety of awards and badges.
The highpoint of the Sea Scout year is the Group’s annual Summer Camp on coastal waters where members extend their frontiers of experience in water activities, self reliance and teamwork.
Other activities include regular coastal sailing weekends in Chichester Harbour where members stay at a purpose built activities centre on the waters’ edge – and winter weekend camps in a log cabin situated in the heart of the Ashdown Forest.
Finally, members also join together with other Esher Troops to participate in a range of District organised activities including hikes and competitions. Throughout all of these activities, within the Ajax Sea Scout Troop the focus firmly remains on fun!
