With a strong focus on water activities, the Ajax Explorer Sea Scout Unit offers real challenge and excitement for young men and women aged 14 to 18
With exclusive access to an extensive fleet of kayaks, sailing dinghies, pulling boats, and power craft, members are able to develop their boating skills and extend their experience under the supervision of qualified Leaders and Instructors.
Because Ajax is an authorised training centre, members are also able to obtain Royal Yachting Association and British Canoe Union qualifications, typically with no requirement to attend costly external courses.
In addition to an action packed programme of water activities, members also undertake advanced training in Scouting skills and they have the opportunity develop their personal leadership skills by participating in the Ajax Young Leader programme.
One of the highpoints of the Explorer year is the Group’s annual Summer Camp on coastal waters where members undertake challenging activities and further develop their leadership skills.
Other activities include coastal sailing weekends at Chichester Harbour, sailing and powerboating weekends on the Solent where members live and sleep aboard a Royal Navy warship – and winter weekend activities such as hill walking expeditions in the Brecon Beacons together with other local Explorer Units.
Finally, through their membership of Ajax, members are able to gain Duke of Edinburgh’s Award qualifications and to participate in low-cost offshore yachting.
